Blood Covenent

On April 7, 2010, in Mon Cèilidh, by Zach Pippin

I recently decided to try my hand at some graphic design.  I’ve been making concept art for practice. Today I decided to make this one for a series called Blood Covenant.  After I made this I decided to actually read about the history of blood covenants.

Turns out one of the ancient practices was to seal a covenant by both men cutting their arms and letting the other suck their blood. A bit gross, but it made me think. In Matthew 26:28, during the Last Supper Jesus talks about His blood “of the covenant” the is poured out for the forgiveness of sins.

In the traditional blood covenant both parties spilled blood. My question is are we supposed to spill our blood as part of the covenant with Christ?  Should this come in the form of sacrificing our lives in His service? Am I way off here?

I’m sorry, this post doesn’t really have a conclusion or inspirational challenge, just an open ended question. Please give me your input!

  1. The blood of the covenant is the wine that Jesus gives. He spills his blood so we don't have to.
-God made a covenant with Adam
-Adam broke the covenant, and as a result, must die
    -instead, Jesus dies
    -communion signifies a New Covenant

In fact I would say that Jesus makes a covenant with God the father about our salvation
    Ref John 6:37.
If I had to spill blood, it would imply that I have an "end of the bargain" to keep, which I've already lost.
    Yea?

Yeah, definitely. I was torn between two ideas. On one hand I feel the obligation to make an effort to give back what I can. On the other hand I know there's nothing I need to do works wise for salvation, or even could do for that matter.

      • I mean Jesus gives us an opportunity to respond to his cross, and that's definitely appropriate. But it isn't to get saved, it's because we are saved.

^^ This is all pretty simple, I'm writing because it's good for me to reiterate, not because I think you didn't already know it. ^^
