Creative Commons 3 Sermonspace

This would be an online archive  of audio files of sermons from across the world. Churches could upload them and put tags for categorizing. Then if a person wanted to listen to a sermon on a particular subject he could type in “and be given a list. Book, subject, denomination, pastor, church, region: the possibilities are endless for indexing.

Sure, many churches put their sermons online, but this would be an easy central way for people to access many different churches’ sermons.  I’m sure something could be done like this on existing websites such as YouTube or myspace, but I think it might be a good tool to have a dedicated site.

Thoughts?

1. Is it a good idea?

2. If so, has it been done yet?

3. If not, what is the best way we can get it done?

4.  What could make this idea even better?

  1. Paul says:

    1. This is an excellent idea.
    2. This has not been done on a wider scale than individual churches.
    3. You would need to dedicate a website to it, not just branch from a website. You could organize it comparably to Grooveshark.com (possible Flash…?)
    4. It's existence. Yeah there isn't exactly a site yet, so there is no standing criticism. Maybe a possible download option…?

    Awesome idea though. Seriously.

  2. Josh Johnson says:

    1. Great Idea

    2. SermonAudio.com is already doing this. It hosts sermons from just about any preacher who wants to be put on, however it is a fairly conservative site….Rob Bell wouldn't be getting on anytime soon.

    That's all i got.

that cool to know. kinda grates against me that they apparently screen entries (not just because I think Rob Bell is awesome, but in general) I think a more open format like YouTube would be appropriate. I think the purpose of the site would deter most truly inappropriate stuff, and a user rating system would take care of the rest.
