Last=First

Reading through the Gospel I keep coming across Jesus repeating that to be the greatest you must be the least, and to be the first you must be last. This past weekend I worked with the youth at the FBC fall retreat. The speaker Shonn Keels of Team Impact, talked about a team member that really took this passage to heart, always being last in line, last in a room, last out, etc.

At lunch I decided to try out this idea. I waited until everyone had gotten food. Gavin and I were going through getting our food long after everyone else had been sitting at their tables eating. As we were piling delicious Salsalita’s  tacos and nachos on our plate I had an epiphany and told Gavin “You know, being last really is the best. There’s still more than enough food, and we don’t have to worry about the people behind us.”

By letting others ahead of us, Gavin and I were able to eat as much as we wanted, and we still left plenty of food behind us. Today’s challenge: be last in something. Have faith that Jesus was telling the truth. You may see the blessing immediately like Gavin and I did, or you may see it in heaven. Either way, it’s coming. Jesus said so.
