Sabbath

On March 22, 2010, in Mon Cèilidh, by Zach Pippin

I don’t work on Sundays. It’s something Marcus and I both decided to start doing at the end of last summer. I must say it’s quite refreshing, something I’d recommend to everyone. Observe a Sabbath and rest on it. I chose Sunday, but you don’t have to. Just choose a day of the week that works for you and then stick with it.

Turn down any requests to do work on that day. I promise the more you do it the easier it becomes. “Sorry, I don’t work on Sundays.”  Only make exceptions when absolutely necessary. Lay aside homework and other tasks for the day. Don’t worry, it will be there on the morrow. Make it a priority to get your work done the other  days of the week to reward yourself with the one day of total rest.

Finally choose a relaxing activity to replace the work you usually do. My Sundays typically comprise of going to church, coming home, taking a nap, and reading some books.

Observing the Sabbath doesn’t have to be a time out from getting work done. Take it how God intended it. A well needed rest from the hassles of everyday life.

  1. At the beginning of this semester I started to take sabbath seriously. I do it on Saturday, just the best day for me, and it's really helped keep things together for me. Good call sir.
