The Desires Of Your Heart

On October 21, 2009, in Mon Cèilidh, by Zach Pippin

Pslams 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Who wouldn’t want all the desires of his heart? What are yours? Riches, fame, women? These are just a few things that may come to mind when thinking about the desires of your heart. But the key part of this sentence is the first phrase, “Delight yourself in the Lord” The gift of our heart’s desires is predicated upon the condition that our delight be in the Lord. This changes everything, because I believe when our delight is in the Lord our desires are drastically different. Sure, there are times when I see the big money and fame and whatnot that others have and want that.

But most of the time, when I really think about it, what I truly want deep down is much more simple. A peaceful, yet exciting life; the ability to make a difference in the world; a loving family. These desires are pure in motivation, and rooted in a delight in God. These are the desires I trust He will fulfill.

What are your true desires? Are they a result of your delight in the Lord. Delight in the Lord first, you will see you desires change, then He will grant you those new desires.
